Our group classes — the foundation of our program — provide all fencers the fundamental and advanced instruction they need to successfully progress through each level. These popular group classes build both halves of the student athlete–the physical: coordination, balance, speed and strength; and the mental: focus, self-control, accurate decision-making and adaptability to ever-changing situations.
Capital provides all fencing equipment for beginners, including fencing jacket, underarm protector, fencing mask, glove and sabre. Fencers should wear sneakers and athletic pants for class. Please no jeans, shorts, Crocs or sandals.
Capital’s New Musketeer class is specifically tailored for children ages 7 and up who have not fenced before. The goal of beginner classes is to introduce students to the sport, safely teach them the basics of sabre fencing, and lead them through a variety of conditioning exercises that will improve their balance, agility and timing.
Capital’s New Musketeer class is currently held on Saturdays, 9:00-10:00 am. Registration is open now.
Students in the Musketeer class are grouped by age (7-9 year olds and 10-12 years) to ensure age-appropriate instruction. Youth fencers can schedule private fencing lessons with Capital coaches if they are enrolled in a Capital class.
Capital’s Adult Fencing class is one hour, offered Thursday evenings from 8:15-9:15 pm. A relaxed, fun introduction to sabre fencing, this class is well suited for beginners, fencers returning to the sport and adults who are interested in competing locally and nationally. The monthly fee is $120, which includes Capital membership as well as open fencing Monday-Friday starting at 7:00 pm and Saturdays 1:00-3:00 pm. Enrolled adult fencer may also schedule private instruction with a Capital coach.
